Declaring Place of Residence

Who Needs to Do This?

  • Foreigners with a temporary or permanent residence permit
  • Lithuanian citizens moving to a new address
  • Anyone staying long-term in Lithuania and using local services (e.g., healthcare, schools, etc.)

Step-by-Step Guide

Get Permission from the Landlord or Property Owner

  • You must have consent from the owner of the apartment/house.
  • They will either:
    1. Sign a residence declaration form (Gyvenamosios vietos deklaravimas), or
    2. Give you notarized authorization, if you’re not on the lease.

Pro Tip: Make sure your rental agreement allows you to declare residence. Not all landlords permit this.

Prepare Required Documents

You will need:

  • Passport or residence permit
  • Rental contract (or proof of ownership)
  • Declaration form (can be filled out online or at the migration office)
  • Consent from the owner (written or in person)

Submit Your Declaration

There are three ways to declare your residence:

What Happens After?

You’ll receive confirmation (often by email or print) that your residence is declared.
Your declared address will be registered in the national database.
You can later change it if you move to a new place.

Important Note

Without a declared place of residence, you may not be able to:
Finalize your residence permit
Get a Lithuanian personal code
Enroll in public health insurance (SODRA)
Register for services like banks, schools, or family doctors
Always notify the authorities within 1 month when you move to a new address.
